Best 5 Minute Low Carb Red Pizza & Pasta Sauce

OVERVIEW:

Fast and flavorful, this red sauce for pizza has all your traditional pizza sauce needs covered as well as easily converting to make a fine marinara type pasta sauce. The sauce also makes great low carb meat/chicken/fish sauces. For a red “pasta” sauce conversion, just stir in some red wine, water or even cream (for a delicious tomato/cream style) to thin it to the desired consistency before using.

I like the red sauce for oven baked dishes as well like baked eggplant parmesan or for casseroles. Add grilled mushrooms, yellow, red or green bell peppers and/or onions for flavor variations. A few shakes of Louisiana Hot Sauce can liven up any of them if you want a more zesty or spicy sauce.

A long time ago I figured out that learning the basics of making easy low carb sauces is a real comfort zone thing. Then you can become that kitchen wizard and whip up many different and wonderful main dishes as well as appetizers and even dips. Any way you look at it you’ve got it easily covered to say nothing of fantastic low carb flair. So great when you know the basics, right? That’s why the pros make it look so simple – they know the basic recipe “styles” and build the specific flavor profile intensities from there. Cool.

P.S. Also a note about the tomato sauce here. Hunts uses vine ripened tomatoes and applies steam to peel them without chemicals. The result is a fresher “just picked” tomato flavor without the chemical residue. Fresh tomatoes are fine but its not always easy to find organic, fresh “vine ripened” tomatoes to cook for hours so use Hunts® if you can in this easy red sauce. That’s why it's suggested.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 15 oz can Tomato sauce (Hunts®)
  • 1 6 oz can Tomato paste (Hunts®)
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 Teaspoons Dried Oregano (or 4 teaspoons fresh oregano)
  • 2 Teaspoons Garlic powder (like Lawry’s)
  • 1 Teaspoon Paprika
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Louisiana Hot Sauce (optional, adds zesty flavor)
  • 1 Tablespoon Minced red onion (optional- adds a nice touch of sweetness)

INSTRUCTIONS:

To make the Best Easy Low Carb Red Pizza Sauce, combine all ingredients in a medium sauce pan.

Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Makes 24 servings – approximately three 3/4 cup portions, enough for three medium size 12”pizzas (8 servings each) at just 2 -1/2 net carbs per serving.

VARIATIONS:

  • Note: if a very thick “paste” type sauce is wanted, whisk in 1/2 teaspoon Thick It Up™ Low Carb Thickener after bringing to a boil.
  • Cook's Note: Divide leftover sauce into portions (approx. 3/4 cup each) and freeze in labeled freezer bags. Keeps well frozen for 6 months.
